FIFA and France Football will announce on Thursday in Sao Paulo, the names of three finalists for the Golden Ball, the big favorite to win the trophy being the Argentine Lionel Messi.

The 25-year-old Argentina player, triple winner of the Golden Ball, would become the first player with four trophies. He already matched Michel Platini, who won it three consecutive times, two other players who managed the triple being Johan Cruyff and Marco Van Basten, but not three years in a row.

Barcelona won smoothly the first leg knockout round of the Spanish Copa del Rey. The Catalans won the away match against Deportivo Alaves with score of 3-0, even though Tito Vilanova has rested Messi, Pedro, Pique, Valdes and Xavi.

UEFA has announced on the official site  the list of players who are fighting for the title of “Best Player in Europe”!

Leo Messi, the first winner of this trophy, is on the list with the last year’s rivals, Cristiano Ronaldo and Xavi. The trophy will be awarded on  August 30 in Monaco.

Initiative to create this distinction belongs to UEFA president. As in 2011, a jury of journalists from all 53 countries belonging to the European league have made lists of the best players. Players are put in order from 1 to 5, the best having 5 points, the second 4,  and so on. Read more
